The Agency was founded in 1990 by Dieter Hagenbach as Gaia Media Agency focusing on spirituality, alternative health isssues and related topics from the mind body spirit field. In 2001 Hans-Joachim Bender joined the Gaia Media Agency as a partner, and the agency was renamed as Hagenbach & Bender – Literary Agency – following up on those early subjects of interest but also broadening the scope of activities into general non-fiction, fiction and children’s books. Both Dieter Hagenbach and Hans-Joachim Bender have long standing professional backgrounds in publishing. Dieter Hagenbach left the agency in 2008 to persue new activities within his Gaia Media Foundation:
